NAECAD Certification Program (NAECAD – CP)

Certification Program for Esports Coaches and Directors

The NAECAD Certification Program (NAECAD-CP) provides quality and accessible professional development for competitive esports coaches and directors. The NAECAD-CP creates a context of professional development to assist organizations hiring high school, college, and professional level esports coaches and directors and formalizes certification levels to be recognized within the competitive esports ecosystem.

NAECAD members assist in curriculum and assessment development for courses offered in NAECAD – CP. The curriculum and assessments are created to help esports coaches and directors attain a level of demonstrated expertise and proficiency in the competencies listed below and to be successful in their sport and with their student-athletes.

NAECAD-CP courses will be delivered on a state of the art mobile platform allowing coaches and directors to learn any place and at any time. NAECAD members will receive a discounted price when registering for courses. The NAECAD will also provide tools and resources for content developers to create quality professional development courses to be added to the list of topics available for coaches and directors to advance in the certification program and to provide current, relevant learning in the evolving world of competitive esports.

The NAECAD-CP will be available starting in January 2020.

 

NAECAD Certification Program (NAECAD – CP) 

Level 1 Certification: Basic Level
Description:  Upon completion of the Level 1 certification requirements an individual will have demonstrated the foundational knowledge to coach or direct a competitive esports program at a basic level.
Credit Requirements to Complete Level 1 Certification:

10 Credits (all 10 credits are elective credits but an individual must complete at least one class in each of the four core competency categories (Program Philosophy, Organization and Administration, Player Growth and Development, Student Success; an individual can select classes according to personal needs/wants based upon their current/pursuing role and desired competencies. Credits can also be earned from work experience as a coach/director OR NAECAD convention/clinic attendance).

NAECAD-CP Credits from Professional Experience and Experiences:

·         Professional Work Experience (3 credit for each year of work as an esports coach or director)

·         NAECAD National Convention/Clinic Attendance (1 credit for attending a recognized NAECAD Event – access to course content from convention/clinic for additional credits)

Level 2 Certification: Intermediate Level
Description:  Upon completion of the Level 2 certification requirements an individual will have demonstrated the foundational knowledge to coach or direct a competitive esports program at an intermediate level.
Credit Requirements to Complete Level 2 Certification:

10 Credits (all 10 credits are elective credits but an individual must complete at least one class in each of the four core competency categories (Program Philosophy, Organization and Administration, Player Growth and Development, Student Success; an individual can select classes according to personal needs/wants based upon their current/pursuing role and desired competencies. Credits can also be earned from work experience as a coach/director OR NAECAD convention/clinic attendance).

Level 3 Certification: Advanced Level
Description:  Upon completion of the Level 3 certification requirements an individual will have demonstrated the foundational knowledge and experience to coach or direct a competitive esports program at an advanced level.
Credit Requirements to Complete Level 3 Certification:

· 10 Credits (all 10 credits are elective credits but an individual must complete at least one class in each of the four core competency categories (Program Philosophy, Organization and Administration, Player Growth and Development, Student Success; an individual can select classes according to personal needs/wants based upon their current/pursuing role and desired competencies. Credits can also be earned from work experience as a coach/director OR NAECAD convention/clinic attendance).

Level 4 Certification: Master Level
Description:  Upon completion of the Level 4 certification requirements an individual will have demonstrated the foundational knowledge and experience to coach or direct a competitive esports program at a master level.
Credit Requirements to Complete Level 4 Certification:

10 Credits (all 10 credits are elective credits but an individual must complete at least one class in each of the four core competency categories (Program Philosophy, Organization and Administration, Player Growth and Development, Student Success; an individual can select classes according to personal needs/wants based upon their current/pursuing role and desired competencies. Credits can also be earned from work experience as a coach/director OR NAECAD convention/clinic attendance).

Certification Renewal: Four Credits Every Three Years (all courses count for renewal as well as reaching next certification level)
Description:  Upon completion of a level of certification, coaches and directors will need to keep their certification current. To do so an individual will need to complete four additional credits over a period of three years. All courses count for renewal as well as reaching the next certification level. Individuals will receive a notification to renew certification one year from the expiration date.
Credit Requirements to Complete Certification Renewal: 4 Credits Every Three Years (all courses count for renewal as well as reaching next certification level)

 

Game Specific Specialization/Certification: A certification for a specific esports game.
Description:  Upon completion of a Game Specific Certification, coaches and directors will have a level of knowledge and experience to coach a specific esports game. Certification gives a context for the depth of knowledge and experience a coach has attained in a specific game.
Credit Requirements to Complete Specialization/Certification: Game specialization certification will be a running number of credits – every time a coach completes another credit in a specific game, they would receive a new certificate listing their current level (e.g., League of Legends – CR08 – showing they have completed 8 credits in League of Legends specific professional development. The coach or director can list this level of expertise in a specific game next to their NAECAD-CP Level as they apply for professional positions in the competitive esports space.
